"The Foxfire Books" Ever heard of the old school 1960s (but very practical to this day) simple living how to series?? A comprehensive eco concious folk wisdom guidebook series of the southern Appalacians directly from the source.

Ever wish we could simplify and get back to the old days when things weren't so fast paced and stressful?? I think that even one of this series The Foxfire Books would be a great way to get started!!

In the 1960s a very intuitive teacher with an Ivy League degree and down to earth values named Eliot Wigginton started these fun and useful eco-friendly old guidebooks as a project with his  class. The goal at first was to keep his energetic but bored high school English students busy with some hands on old school folk Appalachian skills, folklore and "other affairs of plain living."

Topics are colorful and ranging from log cabin building to planting by the zodiac signs to "moonshining as a fine art." Mr. Wigginton let his students chose the name Foxfire which is a tiny organism that lives in the Appalachian Mountains that glows in the dark and can sometimes be seen in the shaded coves.

What manifested as a result of The Foxfire Project was an in tune, relevant series of folk wisdom and cultural preservation manuals that transcends timelines and generations. These practical guidebooks are not only fun to read but much of the information is relevant and useful to this day.

I must have searched half of the used bookstores in St. Paul, MN and luckily finally found the first four of the twelve book series in good original condition. The Foxfire Books are a gift of old school folk mountain wisdom  for all of the "population that has grown weary of a plastic world," myself included.
